Literacy

Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters that they have learnt in Phonics and use them to begin to read and write. Children are given access to experience a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest and develop their life-long love of reading. Reading consists of two crucial parts – language comprehension and word reading. Language comprehension develops when the children are immersed in tall. Adults talk with the children about the word around them, the books they read and singing. Word reading involves using their phonics to quickly work out how to say unfamiliar words (decoding) and the quick recognition of familiar words. Children develop their love of writing through accessing a range of exciting writing opportunities such as writing with chalk on the floor, making posters, making treasure maps and writing shopping lists. Many of experience are accessed independently through the different areas of provision
